The book-related website Galley Cat has reported — and the author’s website has confirmed — that biographer Brian Jay Jones will be writing a biography of Jim Henson to be published by Ballantine.
There have been a few non-fiction books about Jim over the years… Muppet Wiki even has a page devoted to them. But most of them have been aimed at younger readers, and they all tend to repeat the same information. We’ve been hoping for a while now for a nice big book for grown-ups that tells the in-depth story of Jim’s life and career.
The article linked above mentions that the project has the Henson family’s blessing, which could mean unprecedented access to every aspect of Jim’s legacy… but it could also mean the book will gloss over anything that could present Jim in an unflattering light. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’d love to read a book with just as many stories about Jim Henson the Human Being as Jim Henson the Saintly Flawless Genius. But either way, I’ll look forward to the book. That Jim Henson guy was pretty cool.
