According to an exclusive report today on EW.com, the Jim Henson Company’s new prequel series The Dark Crystal: The Age of Resistance will launch on August 30. It will be ten episodes, and as EW explains: “The show is once again set on the world of Thra and concerns three Gelflings who discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power and set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world. The Gelflings are voiced by Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Nathalie Emmanuel.”
EW has a few more preview images as well, so you should definitely check those out. They look pretty promising, and of course it’s really satisfying to many of us Henson purists that all the characters are animatronic puppets rather than CGI. There’s actually something a little eerie about seeing Skeksis and Gelflings in these modern, high-resolution photos after so many years of watching them in a 30-year-old movie.
As previously reported there are about a million people in the voice cast, including: Harvey Fierstein, Mark Hamill, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Simon Pegg, Andy Samberg, Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham Carter, Harris Dickinson, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong, Alicia Vikander, and Donna Kimball. Whew!
