Disney’s new streaming service is on the horizon, and we’ve all been waiting not-so-patiently for some sort of Muppet project to be officially announced, be it a new series or an old one or something completely different.
While this is most definitely not an announcement about a new Muppet series, it does sound extremely exciting.
A show tentatively titled “Cinema Relics: Iconic Art of the Movies” was just announced as an anthology series that will take a “unique look” at beloved Disney films.
The movies specifically called out by the press release include Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Mary Poppins, Tron, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Oh, and The Muppet Movie.
The show will be looking at things like props and costumes, the craftspeople who created them, the actors who interacted with them, and the collectors/archives who own and cherish them. The show will be hosted by film historian/collector Dan Lanigan.
So while this isn’t an all-new Muppet production, it’s still exciting to hear that we’ll be getting an episode of a docu-series all about The Muppet Movie, just in time for the film’s 40th anniversary!
