RIP Peter Hughes, Great Muppet Caper’s “Stanley”

We are saddened to learn that British actor Peter Hughes has passed away.

You may recall Hughes’ memorable role as Stanley the matre d’ of The Dubonnet Club in The Great Muppet Caper.

In addition to his Muppet-related work, Hughes also appeared on TV series like Jeeves and Wooster, The Avengers, and Poirot, as well as films like Evita and Passage to India.

But of course, we’ll always remember him as Stanley, whose snootiness clashed with Nicky Holiday’s laid-back attitude, who reported on Lady Holiday’s “AIIIIEEEE” when her jewels were stolen, and who likely never got a tip.
