Last year, we (along with our frenemies at The Muppet Mindset) celebrated the first ever Miss Piggy Day, honoring a pig important enough to have her own dang holiday. Also so we could get on her good side, and hopefully avoid being on the wrong end of a velvet-gloved karate chop.
Although there are 1,001 ways to celebrate Miss Piggy Day (and just as many wrong ways to celebrate – we suggest avoiding anything with a luau theme), we’re still unsure of what to do that will pay an appropriately epic homage to our favorite porcine performer. Somehow, tweets and hastily-made banners just don’t feel like enough.
Thankfully, Hollywood has come to our rescue. Dozens (well, almost a dozen) celebrities came out of the woodworks to celebrate this venerable occasion, and they’re showing us what we plebeians should be doing.
Loretta Swit spent her episode of The Muppet Show donning her Miss Piggy inspired outfits and a snout to live her best life as a member of the Swine Trek crew and Vet’s Hospital medical staff. Because Miss Piggy Day is also about finding a career that benefits mankind.
John Ritter had the same idea as Loretta (during his appearance on The Fantastic Miss Piggy Show), as he embodied Miss Piggy for a number, because he knows that the key to true beauty is through imitation of the Pig. I’ve never been more attracted to him.
Soleil Moon Frye dressed like Miss Piggy in an issue of Muppet Magazine, because she knows that there is an inherent coolness factor when you become the Pig. And from what I hear, she’s stayed dressed like that since 1985. I mean, wouldn’t you?
Brook Shields Miss Piggified herself back in 2001, bringing a little glam to The Muppet Show Live when the real Piggy couldn’t attend. Part of embodying Miss Piggy has got to be knowing that you’ll never actually be as great as the real Miss Piggy.
Joan Rivers imitated her former Muppets Take Manhattan co-star a few years ago for a video on E! in an attempt to match to her level of sass, but ultimately fizzling out, if only by comparison.
Rich Little tried to do justice to Miss Piggy’s glory, but oh boy did he crash and burn. They can’t all be winners. I mean, what a turd. What an awful, horrible turd.
Teen Wolf and Arrow star Colton Haynes decided to celebrate Miss Piggy Day by giving everyone nightmares, I guess? Thanks for nothing, Haynes.
Calista Flockhart celebrates Miss Piggy Day every day (as one should). That picture above isn’t from Halloween, it’s how she looks every time she leaves the house. The same goes for her husband, Harrison Ford, who is probably celebrating some Catholic holiday.
Celebrities aren’t the only ones who get into the spirit of Miss Piggy Day. The Muppets themselves know how to do it up right too.
Fozzie Bear enlisted with the Swinetrek for a 5-year deployment just so he could feel what it’s like to be in her shoes. And hoop skirt.
Gonzo embodied the essence of Miss Piggy for a Miss Piggy Day pageant and won. (Don’t tell the real Miss Piggy, who placed third.)
This is a Muppet rat, also dressed as Miss Piggy. Gonna be honest, I’m running out of things to say. That rat sure is wearing a dress and wig, ain’t he???
More Muppets dressed as Piggy. I guess all it takes is a wig and snout, and you’re celebrating this special not-made-up holiday. The commitment level is low, folks.
Or you can try to take over her life, Single White Female-style. That would probably work too.
Really, there’s no wrong way to celebrate, so go nuts and have a great Miss Piggy Day, everyone!
