As reported by the Hollywood Reporter and others, actor Jim Nabors has died at the age of 87. Nabors is best-known for playing Gomer Pyle on The Andy Griffith Show and his very own spinoff Gomer Pyle, USMC, with plenty of movie and TV guest credits to his name as well. As Muppet fans, we remember him from his appearance as a guest star on an early episode of The Muppet Show. (We reviewed that episode back in 2002 and again last year.)
In addition to being a talented comic actor, Nabors was also a singer. In his Muppet Show episode, he sang “Gone With the Wind” — and this song originally recorded by John Denver, another Muppet Show guest star:
