RIP Muppet Show Guest Star Bruce Forsyth

As reported by the BBC, prolific British entertainer Bruce Forsyth has died at the age of 89.  Forsyth may not be especially well-known by Americans, but in the UK he was a constant show business presence for many decades.  He was a game show host, a comedian, an actor, a singer, and an all-around television personality, and as Wikipedia tells us, the Guinness World Records people recognized him as “having the longest television career for a male entertainer.”  Not bad.

Muppet fans — especially us Americans — may know him best as a first-season guest star on The Muppet Show, where he sparred with a big bird (not Big Bird), joked with Fozzie, and sang with Miss Piggy.  You can read our “40 Years Later” review of that episode here.  In 1993, he reunited with Miss Piggy on his show Bruce’s Guest Night for another performance of their Muppet Show duet “Let There Be Love.”

Like the Muppets, Sir Bruce Forsyth spent his life singing and dancing and making people happy.  He will be missed.
