And here we go with a look at Sesame Street’s 23rd anniversary special! Sadly, I wasn’t able to find a copy of this one, but I don’t need it. I vividly remember watching that special on my TV back in 1993.
I had been a fan of the show for years, so I was eager to see what the special had in store, right from the moment the announcer introduced host Marc Summers.
“This isn’t just a ‘puppet show,’” Summers said. “So many kids have had their childhoods enriched so much as they’ve come to know these quirky characters — they think of them as friends. And it’s not just for kids! Parents everywhere love tuning in along with their children, because this is a colorful, funny show with something for everyone.”
He continued, “Now let’s take a look at some of the most memorable moments from the show.” Then came the first clip montage. And they were delightful clips!
There was Magellan the dragon, squabbling with his wayward tail. There was Batley the bat, coming in for another crash landing. There was Bogg and Quagmire, playing a silly game as they swam through the castle moat. And of course, there was Eureeka, attempting her latest spell but not quite getting it right. Such great memories!
It was so much fun to see these — oh.
Wait a minute.
Magellan… moat… Eureeka…
Actually, that wasn’t a Sesame Street anniversary special I saw. That was a Eureeka’s Castle anniversary special.
Never mind.
