John Tartaglia is a man of many hats.  He’s had his own Disney series (Johnny and the Sprites), he’s performed with the Muppets and Sesame Street, he had his own off-Broadway show (“Imaginocean”), had a hit Broadway musical with “Avenue Q”, and he recently began performing as Fraggle Rock‘s Gobo.  And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Just announced today, Tartaglia is adding another show to his IMDb page, and this one is in tandem with The Jim Henson Company.  SPLASH is an upcoming preschool series via the Henson Digital Puppetry Studio all about exploring the undersea world.  Here’s the official synopsis:

SPLASH follows the adventures of its title character, a yellow fusilier fish who has migrated all over the oceans before settling down with his family in Reeftown, where he befriends three inquisitive fellow sea creatures. Until Splash came along, Bubbles, Dunk, Ripple and most of the other Reeftown residents had no idea what lay beyond the cozy confines of their coral walls. Together, Splash and his friends explore the world’s oceans, where they meet wildly diverse marine animals and discover otherworldly undersea habitats, bringing back what they’ve learned to share with their neighbors.

The series will begin to air this fall on PBS, and 40 episodes have been greenlit. This sounds like a great follow-up for Tartaglia to his fun “Imaginocean” (which is pictured above, not SPLASH, just to avoid confusion) and also a cool companion for The Jim Henson Company’s Dinosaur Train.  Here’s hoping the show finds the same success!
