ToughPigs is saddened to learn that former First Lady Rosalynn Carter has passed away at the age of 96.

Carter, the wife of President Jimmy Carter, was First Lady from 1977 to 1981. Following her time in the White House, she served as an activist for charitable causes like Habitat for Humanity and the Carter Center, which she co-founded with her husband in 1982.

During her time as First Lady, Carter welcomed the Muppets during the White House Christmas party in 1978. Jim Henson (performing Kermit the Frog) and Big Bird attended, and sang songs accompanied by Joe Raposo and the United States Marine Band. The Carters would also appear with Kermit in an altered photo, which was used in the 2011 film “The Muppets.”

Though her time spent with the Muppets was brief, her tireless efforts to help those less fortunate still serve as an inspiration for fans everywhere.
