We’re saddened to learn that Phyllis George – former Miss America and host of NFL Today – has passed away.
Phyllis George has a particularly strong Muppet connection, as she guest starred on a particularly terrific episode of The Muppet Show.
In her episode, she helped host the 1st annual (and only) “Muppet Awards”, and it’s wonderful. Not only do we get the calamity of an awards show, but it also has gems like The Swedish Chef singing “Yes, We Have No Bananas”, Rowlf singing “Carbon Paper” (with Phyllis George) and “You and I and George”, and a highlight of the series, Scooter singing about past Muppet Show guest stars to the tune of “I Am a Very Model of a Modern Major General”.
Thanks to Phyllis George, this episode went from “great” to one of the best. We thank her for her contributions to the Muppet world, and we’ll miss her.
