RIP First Lady Barbara Bush

We are saddened to learn that Barbara Bush, former First Lady, wife of President George H. W. Bush, and mother of President George W. Bush, has passed away at the age of 92.

Although she has many accolades and accomplishments from her career, the most important was definitely her appearance on Sesame Street.

Mrs. Bush was the first First Lady to appear on Sesame Street – a tradition that was carried on by Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, and Michelle Obama.  In season 21, she appeared on the show to read a storybook to Big Bird, The Count, and a group of kids.  You can watch that clip here:

She also contributed a recipe for “Bologna for a Cocktail Buffet” in the Muppet cookbook “In the Kitchen with Miss Piggy“, and she appeared with her husband in the introduction to Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue, which featured the Muppet Babies (among several dozen other animated characters).  Finally, she and President Bush got their own quasi-Muppet parodies in the book “The Muppets Make Puppets” as “George and Barbara Brush“.

We thank Barbara Bush for her service to the American people, and for taking the time to visit a little inner city street we all grew up on.
