RIP Aretha Franklin

We are saddened to learn that legendary singer and the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, has passed away.

Although Franklin has an impressive history with hit songs like “Respect” and “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman”, as well as appearances in Blues Brothers and President Obama’s 2009 inauguration, it’s surprising that she never appeared on Sesame Street or worked with the Muppets in any capacity.

Except once.

In 2005, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy were hired to work the press line at the red carpet of the Daytime Emmy Awards for The Tony Danza Show.  Throughout the night, they rubbed elbows with celebrities like Susan Lucci, LeVar Burton, Alex Trebek, and about 500 soap opera stars I couldn’t identify if you paid me.  And if you don’t blink, you’ll see that they shared some camera space with the legend Aretha Franklin.

Go ahead and watch the time capsule video below, and keep an eye out for Aretha Franklin at the 3:00 and 3:57 marks.
